From Workgroup PDM to PDM Standard

Plan for the migration before SOLIDWORKS 2018 is installed.

Make the transition from Workgroup PDM to PDM Standard with ease!

The 2018 release will not include Workgroup PDM.  This provides plenty of time for customers to decide on what PDM product will meet their needs. SOLIDWORKS PDM options have changed making the primary data management interfaces SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard & SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional.

What is PDM Standard?

SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard is a new data management solution for smaller work-group environments in one geographic location. Included with SOLIDWORKS Professional and Premium, SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard helps users easily and efficiently organize and manage their data.  SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard can be easily upgraded to SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional if and when needs change.

Why PDM Standard?

Benefits include a low cost of entry, low learning curve and the ability to quickly streamline you design process through Workflow automation and an easy upgrade path to PDM Professional. Integrations with SOLIDWORKS and DraftSight provides your organization with a highly productive data manage system to let users focus on design.

SOLIDWORKS PDM solutions include:
File Management
Revision Management
Design Reuse
Secure File Vaulting
Let's get technical!

PDM Standard is powered by the same Microsoft® SQL Server® Express and user interface (Windows Explorer) as SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional. PDM Standard uses SQL Xpress (free but limited) where PDM Professional uses SQL 2014 Standard edition (with an SQL CAL included for each PDM license).  Please note the View Document as PDF in Workgroup Vault is not available in PDM Standard.

Can a customer who has purchased separate licenses for SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM products upgrade to SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard at no charge?

Yes, customers who own separate licenses SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM Contributor, Viewer and Advanced Server products on subscription will be able to obtain similar SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard licenses at no charge. The following upgrades will be offered (standard rules for subscription on upgrades apply).
