Why PentagonDocs Assistant Is Built for the BIM Mandate Era

Smart BIM Compliance for the Mandate Era—Done Right with PDA

As Ireland’s BIM mandate comes into force, design firms face increasing pressure to comply with evolving government regulations. Starting January 2024 and continuing through to 2028, public sector projects require strict adherence to ISO 19650 standards and BIM workflows.

For engineering and architectural practices striving to meet these new demands, PentagonDocs Assistant (PDA) is the essential platform for management and control of your company’s WIP. PDA streamlines BIM compliance, automates workflows, and integrates seamlessly with your existing CAD and BIM tools, helping design firms stay ahead of schedule and focused on design.

Be BIM-Ready, Ahead of Schedule with PentagonDocs Assistant

With BIM requirements expanding rapidly, it’s vital that your firm is not just compliant but prepared well in advance. The Irish Government’s BIM roadmap includes critical milestones such as

  • January 2025: BIM compliance extends to contractors.
  • June 2025: Additional design and contractor responsibilities introduced.
  • 2026–2028: SME-level BIM adoption becomes mandatory.

PentagonDocs Assistant is built to keep your firm ahead of these deadlines. Early adoption of PDA means you can embed ISO 19650-compliant workflows into your daily operations, ensuring you remain compliant, improve delivery, and remain competitive.

Automate BIM Compliance, Focus on What Matters: Design

Manual compliance processes slow teams down and increase the likelihood of errors. PDA automates critical BIM tasks like:

  • ISO 19650 naming conventions
  • Approval workflows and version control
  • Tracking from Work-in-Progress (WIP) to issued documentation

By reducing administrative overhead, your designers and engineers can dedicate more time to creativity and innovation. PDA’s configurable templates and reusable workflows enable your teams to work on multiple projects, each with their own set of requirements, ensuring compliance without sacrificing productivity.

One Source of Truth: Multi-Format Document Control

Producing deliverables in DWG, DWF, and PDF formats is standard, but managing these can be confusing and error-prone. PDA’s Multi-file Document (MFD) functionality ensures all output files derive from a single controlled data set, eliminating version mismatches and confusion.

This capability ensures consistent, audit-ready documentation across all formats, which is essential for BIM compliance and seamless project handovers.

Seamless Integration with AutoCAD and Revit

Adopting BIM shouldn’t mean disrupting your team’s workflow. PDA integrates natively with popular design tools like AutoCAD and Revit, offering features such as:

  • Auto-fill title blocks with BIM metadata.
  • Easy publishing to IFC, NWC, and PDF via intuitive wizards.

This seamless integration accelerates BIM adoption and reduces training overhead, enabling your team to hit BIM milestones effortlessly.

Custom Workflows That Match Your Firm’s Needs

Every design practice is unique, which is why PDA offers flexible configuration options:

  • Custom naming rules aligned with your internal standards.
  • Tailored metadata fields and template creation.
  • Reusable workflows that support your ISO 19650 compliance needs.

With PDA, you maintain control over your document management processes while meeting government BIM requirements.

Transmittals Delivered in Minutes, Not Hours

Document transmittals are often time-consuming but essential for tracking projects and maintaining audit trails. PDA’s smart transmittal builder automates this process, offering:

  • Historical transmittal records
  • Custom report generation
  • Tracked uploads to client extranets

The result? Faster, more accurate transmittals that save time and reduce risk.

Ready to Take the Next Step in BIM Compliance?

As the Irish BIM mandate reshapes public projects, design firms must act now to avoid the last-minute scramble to meet compliance, which often results in an unplanned, rushed, and expensive transition. Act now to plan so you remain compliant, improve delivery, and remain competitive. PentagonDocs Assistant offers a proven solution to:

  • Achieve and exceed ISO 19650 BIM compliance.
  • Automate document control and workflows.
  • Integrate with existing CAD/BIM environments.

What is the Irish BIM mandate, and who does it apply to?

The Irish Government’s BIM mandate is a phased programme requiring public sector construction projects to follow ISO 19650 standards for information management. It began in January 2024, applying initially to design teams working on public projects over €100 million. However, this is just the first step. From January 2025, BIM compliance will extend to contractors. By June 2025, further design and contractor roles will be brought into scope. Between 2026 and 2028, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will also be required to comply. This means all firms working on public sector projects in Ireland—regardless of size—will eventually need to be BIM-compliant.

How does PentagonDocs Assistant help with BIM compliance?

PentagonDocs Assistant (PDA) is designed specifically to support ISO 19650 compliance at every stage of the Irish BIM mandate. It automates core tasks such as document naming, approval workflows, version tracking, and transmittal management. By embedding compliance into day-to-day operations, PDA helps your team avoid manual errors, reduce delays, and stay ahead of regulatory deadlines.

Does PDA integrate with AutoCAD and Revit?

PDA integrates directly with both AutoCAD and Revit, making it easy for teams to adopt BIM workflows without disrupting established tools or practices. It enables title block auto-fills, supports workset-aware file handling, and simplifies the publishing of documents to IFC, NWC, and PDF formats—all within your existing design environment.

Can we customise our own workflows in PDA?

Yes, PDA offers full flexibility when it comes to workflow design. You can configure metadata fields, define approval stages, apply your own naming rules, and create reusable templates. This means you can maintain your firm’s internal standards while aligning with ISO 19650 requirements.

How long does it take to issue a transmittal using PDA?

With PDA, issuing a transmittal takes just a few minutes. The platform automatically compiles the required documents, applies relevant metadata, generates a full audit trail, and tracks delivery status. This significantly reduces the time and effort usually involved in creating and managing transmittals.

Is PentagonDocs Assistant only for public sector projects?

While PDA is built with public sector compliance in mind, its benefits apply equally to private sector projects. Firms looking to reduce risk, increase documentation control, and streamline BIM workflows will find PDA invaluable regardless of project size or sector.

Can I use PentagonDocs Assistant with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)?

Yes, PentagonDocs Assistant integrates seamlessly with Autodesk Construction Cloud. Many firms choose to use both, with PDA managing ISO 19650-compliant document control and BIM workflows during the design phase, while ACC supports downstream collaboration during construction. PDA ensures that information passed into ACC is correctly named, approved, and versioned, providing a robust foundation for the rest of the project lifecycle.
