2000 Feet Under: How Center Rock used SOLIDWORKS to Rescue a Group of 33 Chilean Miners

On August 2010, the Chilean mining accident shook the local and global community as 33 Chilean miners were trapped 2,300 feet underground.

For 69 days, grief-stricken families worked to convince the Chilean government to continue drilling the ground until the miners were brought home safely. In October 2010, a rescue operation involving Center Rock (a SOLIDWORKS customer), the United States, Canada, South Africa and Latin America successfully brought “the 33” above ground. Tomorrow you will be able to see the personal account of the disaster:  The 33, detailing the story. To watch the engineering behind the rescue mission, learn more about Center Rock’s drilling machine in the video attached to the sidebar.
