Autodesk Map 3D 2007

Built on the New AutoCAD 2006 Platform Autodesk Map® 3D 2006 is built on the latest release of AutoCAD® software and is enhanced with a suite of mapping tools. It contains all the features and functionality of AutoCAD® 2006, which is automatically installed when you install Autodesk Map 3D 2006, so you know you’re working with proven, reliable, industry-leading software.

Menus and Toolbars—New

New task-based menus in Autodesk Map 3D 2006 enable users to work more intuitively than ever before. Menus are organized by tasks, so you can find commands more quickly and easily. For example, all the commands you need to analyze map data are on the Analyze menu. Or you can work in “classic” mode, which maintains the menu configuration from Autodesk Map® 3D 2005. Toolbars are now also task-based and streamlined. The most frequently used Autodesk Map 3D, AutoCAD®, and Microsoft® Office commands are now displayed by default

MapBooks—New

View Larger ImageThe MapBooks feature simplifies and automates complex tasks that you perform on a regular basis—the production of map books for office and field use. Generate a consistent set of map tiles from your spatial information, segmented by the desired number of sheets or predefined layouts. Like an atlas, each tile in the book represents a specific area of the larger map. Based on custom page numbering, easily view and edit data by navigating the individual map tiles in model space. Distribute your data by publishing map books as multipage Autodesk® DWF™ (Design Web Format™) file format, individual DWF files, or hard copy. DWF format-based map books enable you to view electronic maps without costly software and helps ensure that everyone is using the latest information.

Display Manager—Improved

Using the improved Display Manager feature in Autodesk Map 3D 2006, you can create stylized versions of your data to highlight specific features or information. Easily access the tools required to select objects, styles, and themes for display maps. Attach information stored in an external database to any feature within Autodesk Map 3D for use in creating thematic maps. For example, create a map that displays land use, based on residential and commercial zoning. Or query display elements (objects) based on layers, topology, feature classification, and external data sources for use in a display map.

FDO Providers—New and Improved

New and improved providers for Feature Data Objects (FDOs) provide direct, simultaneous access to multiple databases (including Oracle® 9i and Oracle 10g, and ArcSDE®) to help ensure accuracy and minimize data conversion. Maintain versions of data with long transaction support, and even edit queried objects when you are offline. When you go back online, save the modifications back to the data source using persistent locking. Autodesk Map 3D provides another solution for editing ArcSDE data, so you are no longer limited to using only ArcGIS® software.

.NET API—New

Develop custom applications faster and more easily with the new, comprehensively documented .NET API (application programming interface) for all new and existing functionality in Autodesk Map 3D. You also can use APIs such as AutoLISP®, Microsoft® ActiveX®, and ObjectARX® programming languages.

Multiuser Editing

One of the strengths of Autodesk Map 3D 2006 is multiuser editing capabilities, especially multiuser DWG file format editing. Using the software’s query functionality, multiple users can access and edit the same sets of files or base maps simultaneously. All functions remain available to all users throughout the process. This efficient and reliable way to share maps and data between users reduces the need for version control and minimizes time wasted waiting for data sets.

Powerful FME Import-Export Engine

Use the powerful FME Import-Export engine in Autodesk Map 3D to exchange data with colleagues and customers. The FME Import-Export engine interoperates with all major GIS software, so you can read, write, and transform industry-standard formats, including ArcView shapefile, Arc/Info® coverages, and E00 from ESRI® MapInfo® MIF/MID™, MapInfo Tab, MicroStation® DGN™, Generalized Markup Language (GML 2), Ordnance Survey MasterMap (DNF) (GML2, read only), Vector Product Format (VPF, read only), and Spatial Data Transfer Standard (SDTS, read only). After working with the data, you can maintain it in Autodesk Map 3D or export it to an external file.

Feature Classification

Organize objects in your drawing by the real-world features that they represent using feature classification. When you create an object using feature classification, the object automatically takes its properties and values from its feature class, maintaining consistency and establishing standards in your drawing. By applying a classification to an existing or new object, you can be assured that it meets your standards for both data and display.

Annotation

Save time annotating plans using Autodesk Map 3D 2006 software’s intelligent annotation tools. Simply define a template that describes the source and layout of your annotation. The software fills in the blanks with the appropriate data for the object being labeled. Annotation automatically assigns attributes from your data source to the corresponding geometry.
