VIZ 2007
Autodesk VIZ 2007
Create 3D Visualizations
Autodesk® VIZ provides an interactive environment for 2D drawing
and 3D modeling, animation, and rendering—giving you the power
to design virtually any kind of shape, object, or scene, as well as
import data from many other Autodesk® design applications.
Tool Palettes
Tool palettes provide instant access to frequently used objects such
as materials, cameras, and lights that address your specific
design needs. Reduce the number of steps that it takes to get
your job done by dragging the object that you want from the tool
palette and dropping it directly into your scene.

• DWG File Link—DWG
File Link enables you to connect Autodesk VIZ directly to DWG source
files in AutoCAD® software–based products. Although your
source file may change many times, you create the visualization only
once.
• Enhanced support for Autodesk Revit Building Files—Now
Autodesk® Revit® Building users can import or link a Revit model via
the DWG format and have scene objects correspond directly to individual Revit
Building objects. Plus, because File Link Reload is fully supported, you can
continue to update your design in Revit Building while maintaining the link in
Autodesk VIZ.
• Autodesk Inventor Import—The Autodesk Inventor® file
format is now one of the default file type options in the Import tool, with the
ability to import both IPT files and IAM files. The Autodesk Inventor Import
feature now supports materials and texture maps from Autodesk Inventor software.

Quickly loft a shape or profile along
lines or polylines imported from AutoCAD or linework created in Autodesk
VIZ. Using the sweep modifier, you can sweep a user-defined shape,
or take simple linework and apply preset shapes like cylinders oManage

The Content Browser provides quick
access to catalogs of Autodesk® VIZ tools such as materials, lights,
cameras, and studios. The Content Browser is a central location for
project-based tools and content, so that every member of your design
team has access to the most up-to-date tools.

The new Scene State utility enables
you to capture object, layer, material, camera, and light information,
and save it as a “scene state.” Any number of scene states
can be saved with the scene and easily restored, increasing your efficiency
and enhancing your ability to customize crucial design information.

The geometry in Autodesk VIZ software
is organized into object level and layer level. The modeless, resizable
Layer Manager streamlines the process of working between systems of
objects and layers. In addition to the floating Layer Manager, the
tools on the Layers toolbar have also been refined.

Some projects—for example,
mechanical assemblies—require an elaborate process of linking
objects so that they move together realistically. Schematic View provides
a single diagrammatic view of all related moving parts for effective
analysis and modification of even the most complex system of linkages.

Radiosity Adaptive Subdivision
This feature helps reduce the overall complexity of the radiosity mesh,
allowing for faster and more efficient radiosity processing.

Rendering Presets
Introduced in Autodesk® VIZ 4, rendering presets are files that
store rendering settings. When you reload these files, the saved settings
are restored into each panel of the rendering dialog boxes. In Autodesk
VIZ® 2006, you can assign settings to three custom preset buttons
that you can then use to switch among various render presets.

Share Your Design Intent
Autodesk DWF Exporter
The Autodesk® DWF™ Viewer now supports 3D, and Autodesk® VIZ
2006 is the first release of Autodesk VIZ to export models for viewing
with Autodesk DWF Viewer and Autodesk® DWF™ Composer. The
ability to export to a 3D Autodesk DWF (Design Web Format™) file
means that you can share design ideas with people who don’t have
Autodesk VIZ but need to view and query your design.

Rendering Technologies
• mental ray® 3.3—The latest improvements to
the world’s most powerful rendering system are included in Autodesk VIZ
2006, including user interface improvements, physically based indirect illumination,
support for IES sun, indirect illumination, and a simplified global illumination
user interface.
• Global illumination—By producing accurate renderings
of what objects or spaces would look like in different lighting conditions, you
can better validate and communicate design intent. Global illumination technology
automatically captures subtle lighting effects that add depth and realism to
images. Effects such as indirect diffuse lighting, soft shadows from an area
light source, and color bounce between surfaces enable you to produce realistic
images and animations for compelling presentations.
• Real-world lighting—Autodesk VIZ 2006 also supports
physically based lighting, first introduced in Autodesk® VIZ 4. Physically
based lighting makes it easier to set up the lighting in your scenes. You can
get realistic results simply by positioning the lights in a scene the way you
would in the real world. Autodesk VIZ also supports IES daylight standards and
offers an enhanced daylight system for defining natural lighting conditions by
specifying location, date, time, and cloud cover conditions.
